Celebrating World Environment Day with Portland Coastal Cliffs
Saturday 8th June 2024
 
World Environment Day at Nuns Beach.
Guest speaker Kristy Brewer shared their knowledge with the small gathered group, of the environmental impact of agriculture and communities on our natural landscape with the outcome of diminished diversity across our landscape. This reinforced the need for groups like the Coastal Care Committee and volunteers who regularly act to remove weeds from areas of our coastline with resulting evidence of increased animal species and reduced weed burden.
After a short mindfulness exercise with the beautiful back drop of the ocean swishing in the background, we were invited to a smoking ceremony before a short walk along the beach and some weeding along the way.
 
Tea and coffee as well as delightful nibbly bits finished off  the celebration.

Sandwich Program:  Tuesday 25th June -Volunteers meet at the Portland Soccer Club to make over 200 sandwiches which are frozen and distributed to local schools for students who need help with food security.

DISTRICT CHANGEOVER
Interested in District Change over on Sunday 23rd June but cant get there in person??? No problems - click on the link to register for the hybrid meeting.
