  • Welcome to our guest tonight Stewart Bunnick - son of Casterton Rotary life member currently working with Bob Menzel - a qualified electrician working on the wind farms. Will be in Portland for a couple of weeks before travelling to New Zealand for about 6 months.
  • Thanks to all who were able to attend the working bee at Lynne Jones yesterday - inclement weather but a great job cutting grass and removing tree limbs over the fence - the wood cutting and bonfire will wait!!
  • A social BBQ night on Monday night at the shed with plenty of chat while the steaks seared! Thanks to Don, John, Owen, Ian and Lynne for cooking up a storm and the multiple members involved in the clean up.
  • "Happy hampers" - bring along an items of thought for making up into a basket.
  • Message to members re: flood assistance - connections being made by District  club to consider donation for assistance in Victorian flood affected areas.
  • Monday 31st October will also be a "Lift the Lid" event - so find a suitable hat!

Checking out the new struts!

Satisfied at the end of the meal!
Behind the scenes!

Members addressing the club:

  • John Pye - plenty of produce available at the community garden - call in and have a look at the Rotary plots!
  •  Brian Murphy - sale of lights and towers previously used at the Art show - make an offer!

  • Community service - roster for cutting lawn at Dicks place while he is away for 6 weeks - offers from Bob, Murph, John, Frank - pop in to try our his self propelled or ride on!

  • John Pye - Tag-a-long Nomads tour of South West this weekend - coming in on Thursday with 22 members - and catching up with our club on Monday for Calcutta event!

  • Food Van Update- It was a good chance to have a look at how the safety struts on the food van windows worked (Dayle says "strutting their stuff!"), thanks to Sam Millard fitting these between hatching babies - so much easier to lift - may need a pole for the vertically challenged, for closing.

  • Tammy Whitehead via email - Environmental tour reminder - get your registrations in for the Budj Bim tour and lunch on 14th November (Sunday 10am to 2pm). Cost for the tour is $55 (reduced from $85 for group rate) to be paid to the treasurer by 7th November, with lunch at your own expense. Register through Club runner link sent to members or advise Tammy directly for assisted registration. 20 places only - currently at ten. People may be able to attend lunch alone but no bookings are taken.

  • Lynne Jones suggestion - an opportunity seen in a recent bulletin- "Loose change" collecting a jar of 5 cent pieces over the next 12 months to donate to Polio eradication. This could be a community collection to be endorsed by the club for fundraising for 2023 - stay tuned!

Wear your hat to help lift the Lid!

While lifestyle choices and genetics go a long way to predcting longevity, people who stick together more on a community and social level also apprear to do a better job ofhelping people, in general, live longer.

Our community and relationships are important and this is where Rotary builds on its strengths of connection.
