Ian Eldridge – Behind the badge.
Ian was born in Ouyen, and moved with his family to Portland when 4 years old. Flooring was his game, many a home and business in Portland has had the Eldridge treatment. He “retired” and still managed many jobs. He is a big part of the Portland Surf Life Saving Club, and still loves to surf. He was introduced to rotary in 1989 and this became big part of his life. He enjoys community work and has taken part in 8 trips to Fiji – he recommends this to any member. He and Brenda enjoy their trips around the world meeting up with past exchange students and still have many more trips planned.
Carolyn Collins – Healthy Aged Hub
Healthy Ageing Hubs supports people 50+ (45+ first nations) to live healthy active lives. They work with local services and community partners across Glenelg Shire to connect people with right support at the right time. The service is managed by Kyeema Support Services, who are looking to build on their established services to be a more inclusive service.
The aim is to provide a one-stop friendly place where you can find trusted local information and services, referrals can by self, family, friend. Helping people remain connected to their local community. Make finding services simpler. Assist with technology challenges, talk with other services and adapt to what the community needs.
One challenge Carolyn does frequently is assist people to register with My Aged Care, which is important for all aged persons so they can access services needed when the time comes. If you are over 65 and not registered – do it.
People are needing help with will making, POA, etc. There is no low-cost assistance available in Portland.
Carolyn is also trying to find out from services available what is missing in the Glenelg Shire. And the possibility of getting shire services together to find out what they do, so that they are aware of other services and make a directory for the community.
