Bec Malseed talking about "Weaners for Profit course" is National program manager at Rural Industry Skill Training (RIST) in Hamilton.With qualifications of Dip of management, and Dip of Human resources management.
This agricultural training program is providing a subsidy through Andrew Jack Program to encourage farmers to upgrade their skills. RIST as a not for profit organisation provides opportunities through pre-accredited trainings, short courses, vocational skills, school based traineeships (cert 2 or cert 3) and national courses which are Weaners for profit, Heifers for profit, and Most successful course to date is our Lifetime Ewe Management jointly owned by AWI. (5000 growers have undertaken the course)

Weaners for profit (5 sessions) is designed to follow on from Lifetime Ewe course (6 sessions) Have to travel around each property on this hands-on course in one day. Group training. Learn how to produce more from less - increasing output tin a shorter period of time.

Session One: Live weight importance and weaning weight
Session two -Pros and cons of joining at 9 months of age including feeding demands.
Session three: Reproductive weight and growth rates
Session four: Birth weight survivals
Session Five: Genetics and choosing rams for reproductive success
Weaner - weaned off their mother
Ewe lambs 7-9 months
Hoggetts 12-18 moths of age
Agents knowledge depends on their understanding of pasture management , soil management and sheep management as opposed to sales information.
With the late break - feed supplements coming in through NSW for Hay and grain options for farmers consideration. Subsidy for farmers to attend this course is gratefully received at this trying time of the year in the agricultural industry. Option for members to review the course in action.
